This case study comes from Mark, who had recently purchased a new large wooden shed from Tiger Sheds for the bottom of his garden. However, the ground at the bottom of Mark’s garden is full of clay and on a slight slope meaning, he couldn’t just install his shed. He needed a suitable product to create a strong and level base that would support his shed for years to come. Read on to see which product Mark chose and why.
Project
Mark began researching online for a product to match his needs and soon came across our website and our fully recycled plastic bases. Using the search bar he found the correct size base he would need (10ft x 8ft Plastic Shed Base) and began to read all of the benefits our base offers:
100% recycled and recyclable, reusable and relocatable, easy to handle and install, can hold up to 420 tonnes per sqm, encourages airflow and is permeable to massively reduce the likelihood of rotting and eliminates the need for labour-intensive or more expensive concrete bases.
Mark was so impressed with the base that he ordered his 10ft x 8ft Shed Base the same day and received it just a few working days later in an easy to manage parcel via DPD to his chosen delivery address.
Work
Once Mark had his plastic base, aggregate, pea shingle and timber planks he began installing his base and shed.
He started by digging down into the soil slightly and filling the area back up with aggregate before compacting and levelling as well as he could. This created a solid sub-base to support his plastic shed base he would later install. On top of his sub-base, he laid a sheet of Shed Base Membrane to protect the base and shed from weeds and plants whilst still allowing water to drain away from the shed naturally. A good sub-base is important as without it, our base may not perform as well as it can.
With his sub-base and membrane sheet in place, Mark began laying his 10ft x 8ft plastic shed base. Starting in one corner and laying one panel at a time, he simply connected each piece together as he went along using the interlocking slot and peg system until the entire area was covered. Mark told us how easy this was to complete.
Once the base was installed and secure, Mark filled the entire base with his pea shingle (we advise that around. 8kg of gravel is required to fill each panel so you can roughly work out exactly how much gravel you will need. And once filled Mark built his own Timber structure on top of our base to keep the shed as far from the floor as possible and also act as an added support. Finally, all that was left to do was to install his new wooden shed!
Mark had said “The bottom of the garden is full of clay and on a slope. I’ve had to excavate a trench for base filled with aggregate, laid your product then add pea shingle for ballast before I lay a timber base then add shed on top.”
Conclusion
Mark was and still is very pleased with his fully recycled plastic base and new wooden shed. After levelling the sub-base the plastic shed base was very easy for him to install and fill.
