About Our 16mm Rubber Grass Mats
The 16mm rubber grass mat is our lighter grass mat variant and is most commonly used in gardens, equestrian areas and under small children’s play areas. They are a popular grass protection option for its durability, 1 metre critical fall height and wheelchair friendliness. The grass mats main purpose is to protect the root of the grass and help revive damaged areas of turf thrive as normal. In very muddy areas, rubber matting is installed (sometimes with the aid of GrassMesh underneath) to keep you and others above the mud with a supportive and cleaner path whilst also giving the grass below the protection needed to grow back and restore the areas natural appearance.
Whilst being effective, rubber grass mats are also quick and easy to install on both level and undulating ground using just cable ties and plastic fixing pegs. Not only is our range of rubber mats an efficient solution for many situations but they are also considered one of the most affordable and economical grass protection mats on the market. What Can A Rubber Grass Mat Be Used For?
The 16mm rubber mat is incredibly versatile and can be used for several applications due to their grass protection, non-slip, soft flooring and safety benefits. Here are some examples of how our rubber grass mats have been used:
Home, Garden & Landscaping
Grass mats primary function is to protect the root of grass, it prevents the grass from being killed and the ground below from becoming a churned up muddy mess. Thanks to the structure of outdoor rubber mats, the grass below can grow through the mat and preserve the natural green appearance of your garden. Once your turf has grown again, it can be cut and cared for as normal, simply adjust the blades of your lawnmower to a higher setting to ensure you do not damage your outdoor rubber matting.
Playgrounds
Our grass mats are regularly used under play areas in gardens and more commercial areas, however due to the 16mm mats lower fall height, we recommend using them for low-level play only. The durability and soft nature of the mats give you a safety flooring where should any trips or falls occur, the chances of serious injury are greatly reduced.
Equestrian
Our rubber field mats are also used regularly as rubber matting for stables as well as in and around grazing areas and paddocks to create non-slip and grass protection flooring. Under the weight of horses in wetter weather, turfed areas can be heavily damaged and lead to a heavy, muddy area that cannot be used. Our rubber stable mats can help to prevent this if installed correctly to ensure that equestrian areas can be used almost all year round. It is recommended that the mats are installed prior to any bad weather arriving too.
Events
Rubber floor mats are also a popular choice for event organisers who need a flooring solution over grass or potentially slippery surfaces. The grass mats are simple to install, remove and relocate which makes them so popular with events that are both touring or in a permanent place. The outdoor mat can protect the existing ground from heavy foot traffic whilst keeping the visitors to an event on a mud-free and non-slip surface that they may not even notice is there.
Golf Courses
Anti mud mats are used regularly by golf clubs who use rubber matting to create paths and walkways around the golf courses so the constant the heavy foot and golf buggy traffic does not damage the grass they work so hard on maintaining. In winter, mud control mats become almost a necessity for courses as grass can become soft and lead to a muddy mess which is hard to repair. The muddy areas can then ruin the course, golfers shoes and clothes and even lead to mud being brought into the clubhouse.
Leisure Centres & Swimming Pools
Thanks to their open structure and non-slip surface, grass mats are used as a safety precaution in and around leisure centres and pools to ensure that usually wet and potentially dangerous surfaces do not lead to slips and injuries from pool users. Non-slip mats can be installed in changing rooms, as walkways around the centre and next to pools to create a safe flooring solution for all users.
It must be noted that rubber grass mats are a functional product which is designed to provide a solution which allows grass to be fortified. Holes in the mats are sometimes imperfect in their shape and may not be wholly central to the cell in which they sit, however this does not undermine the structural or functional integrity of the mat, nor does it impede the grass from growing through and therefore any mat with imperfect perforations will not be deemed as faulty or unfit for purpose.
